AI in the Smart Power Industry
Hello everyone, I'm YPeng. I work in the smart power industry, specifically focusing on empowering the electricity sector with AI. We have undertaken many interesting projects, such as helping China Southern Power Grid's distribution network establish a data mid-platform plan (Link: Data Platform Plan).
Together with our colleagues in power distribution, we have accomplished valuable work using AI. For example, we've developed AI for classifying equipment faults and scoring equipment health (Project Homepage: FTU-AI-DATA).
We encounter many challenging tasks in this field. For instance, predicting inherent equipment failures from electrical parameters is quite difficult due to the lack of typical sensor data like images, infrared, or temperature readings, especially for issues such as insulation breakdown or gas leakage. However, through big data analysis, we've found that electrical parameters alone can partially reflect such inherent equipment failures. For example, insulation breakdown often leads to a sudden increase in current, a sharp drop in voltage, three-phase imbalance, and an increase in zero-sequence current. Based on big data analysis and statistics, we have developed an equipment inherent fault prediction system based on electrical parameters. These systems enable us to predict equipment failures to a certain extent, helping operations and maintenance teams arrange inspections and repairs in advance, thereby preventing more significant incidents.
We have also developed an intelligent power outage scheduling system. This system optimizes outage plans and work tasks by considering multiple factors such as risk, efficiency, reliability, and economy, significantly improving the quality of these tasks. Beyond distribution networks, we also have AI-empowered operations in ultra-high voltage, metering, operations and maintenance, and energy storage. We assist these departments in enhancing production efficiency and reducing the probability of accidents.
